Wright's Basketball Scouting Services traveled out to Modesto Christian High School in Modesto California on Saturday Dec 2nd, for the Inaugural Coach Gary Porter Showcase . Here are the teams that played against each other and some of the players from each team that I thought stood out on this day.
Game 1
Christian Brothers (Sacramento) 72 West (Tracy) 62. Top players in this game from Christian Brothers: #15 E. Perrot 6'6, Senior, Forward. #1 M. Schneider 5'10 Senior, Guard. #3 W. Warmer 5'10 Senior, Guard. #0 A. Albason 5'10 Senior, Guard. The West (Tracy) standouts were # 3 Michael Hayes 6'4 Senior, Guard and # 21 Devante West 5'9 Senior, Guard.
Game 2
Weston Ranch (Stockton) defeated Fresno 92-79. Fast paced lots of points for a high school game. Top players for Weston were #11 Micah Vasser 6'1 Senior, Guard, #12 Antwann Taylor 6'3 Senior, Forward, #15 Donjae' Lindsey 6'1 Freshman, Guard, #22 Makhi Turner 6'1 Junior, Guard, and #32 Gavin Williams 6'2 Junior, Guard. Fresno Guard 6'2 Caleb Williams, shooting guard was the top player on his team Saturday.
Game 3
Lincoln (Stockton) 85 Buchanan (Clovis) 71. This game featured a couple of big teams going at it. Lincoln has #25 Andre Kelly 6'8 Senior, Forward (Cal commit) who showed his skill-set. Ball handling in the open court, three-point shooting, passing, rebounding, blocked some shots, defended the other big guy, and had a presence in the paint area. #22 Ezekial Holman 6'5 Senior, Guard who I thought played well, he knocks down the three consistently, runs the floor, rebounds, and played solid on the defensive end. Holman is a player you have to account for when you play this team. #5 Josh Batcher 6'0 Senior, Guard knocked down a couple of three-point shots. Buchanan's #33 Spencer Heimerding 6'9 Senior, Center, good foot work, scores around the basket, has a nice touch, rebounded and worked hard to defend Kelly. #15 Jonah Crumpton-Murray 6'5 Junior, Guard can handle the ball, shoot three pointers, and he's pretty good in transition. Crumpton-Murray is a player to watch.
Game 4
Bishop O'Dowd 80 Capital Christian 73. Entertaining game from the start, both teams led in this one. At one point I thought O'dowd was going to put them away. Capital Christian never quit. #5 Naseem Gaskin 6'3 Senior, Guard (Utah commit). Once Gaskin gets going in transition he's hard to stop, and he had some nice defensive plays to go with his overall solid performance. #2 Elijah Hardy 6'2 Senior, Point Guard (Washington commit). Not many players see the play before it develops, Hardy does, that's special, he also scores key baskets when needed. #10 Ross Williams 5'9 Senior, Guard continues to impress with each game, he's knocking down open shots, solid defense. Can't forget the two Juniors, #1 Iniko McNeil 5'11 and #25 Will Chavarin presents a pretty good supporting cast to this group. Capital Christian's #2 Zachary Chappell 6'3 Senior, Guard, seems to get better with each game, shooting has improved, he's a solid performer who knocks down three-point shots, can run the offense, goes to the basket well and is playing with confidence. #1 Rick Barros 6'5 Senior , Guard good all around player for this team. Barros rebounds, defends and can score by attacking the basket. #4 Trey Jones 5'10 Point Guard, apparent physical strength, good complimentary player to Chappell and Barros, can knock down the three and plays tough.
Game 5
Modesto Christian 72 Saint Francis 65. # 20 Dathan Satchell 6'2 Junior, Guard, Satchell shoots the three-pointer, attacks the basket aggressively and played solid defense. #2 Michael Pearson 5'9 Sophomore, Point Guard, did a good job at running the offense for this team, he has good handles, made good decisions with the ball and was aggressive when attacking the basket down the stretch in addition to knocking down some critical free throw shots. #32 Gabe Murphy, 6'8 Senior, Center made some key baskets and grabbed important rebounds. #4 Baljot Sahi 5'10 Sophomore, hit some three-pointers to help his team down the stretch and #21 Tsothe Tsardsidge, 6'9 Junior, Forward, a big man that will contribute to this team in some way during the season. St Francis Senior Guard 6'2 Logan Johnson (Cincinnati commit) continues to improve his skill-set, had several 'wow' moments, although none of them were dunks. Logan makes his presence known throughout the game offense and defense. Roy Luan 6' Junior, Guard shoots really well, you have to guard him. #21 Anthony Landphere 6'6 Junior, Forward plays hard, rebounds, and will have to be a scorer in the paint for this team. St Francis is a team that will get better as the season goes on.
