Wright's Basketball Scouting Report Last Notes From Pangos All-West Camp
The Pangos All-West Camp ended a week ago. This is my final take from the event, I made every effort to evaluate all Nor-Cal prospects at this event. These five player weren't selected for the top two games, but I thought they had a good camp and competed.
Davion Wright 6'1 Point Guard 2022, Flanklin HS (Elk Grove CA). I think it's fair to say this prospect got overlooked this past weekend at Pangos. Davion should have been in one of the top two games no doubt about it. He's a strong point guard with handles who can shoot the long 3 point shot and make it with some consistency. He knocked down 3 or 4 long shots in one of his camp games. He has the strength to absorb contact on his way to the rim for the finish, his play was consistent throughout the camp.
Tagipo Maui Jr. 5'10 Point Guard, 2022. Hiram Johnson HS (Sacramento CA.) This prospect hasn't played a high school game. He has strong body, he played calm and under control, he attacks the paint and finishes well but often times he would dish to a big man for an easy two. Tag looks to get others involved, he leads the transition break always looking for the player running hard to fill the lanes or he use his pull-up jumper score. A good on ball defender.
Donjae' Lindsey 6'0 Guard 2021. Weston Ranch HS (Stockton CA). Fits in well with the more established players at his school. No flash just a good solid prospect who plays hard and with confidence. His handles combined with speed and quickness allows him to go by defenders in the open court, and get to the rim. He has a floater, and a nice spin move to go with the pull-up. He can knock down the three when he's on the wings, he's a good on ball defender with quick hands and good lateral movement. Can be very disruptive on defense.
Luke Westermeyer 5'11 Point Guard, 2021. Clayton Valley HS. (Clayton CA). Cool Hand Luke because he doesn't get rattled. He understands how to play the the game, he's a savvy guard who looks to get the ball to team mates in good position whether it's on the break or in half court. Luke has a nice floater and rarely takes a bad shot. A good help defender.
Taj Phillips 5'8 Point guard 2021. Bishop O'Dowd HS, (Oakland CA). It's very difficult to trap and steal the ball from smaller guards with good handles. Taj held his own when playing against bigger guards who tried to be physical with him. He's a pass first point guard with a good pull-up jumper, he see's the floor and can make the accurate long pass up the court, he's a good floor leader in the half court offense.
