I continued my travels on the grassroots circuit. On July 18-19. (I wasn't there on the 20th). I was in Ladera Ranch Ca. Evaluating Northern California prospects participating in the Adidas National championships, other wise known as the Gauntlet. Team Lillard 17u, 16u, Compton Magic Premier 17u, and Dream Vision 15u were the only teams I know of that had Nor Cal prospects. Here are few standouts.
I have to start with Bryce Monroe, the 5'11 2020 standout from Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco Ca) lead Team Lillard 17 while I was in attendance. The two games I witnessed Bryce averaged 23 points, 7 assists, he hit the game winning shot in both games. Bryce competed at the highest level. Being defended by top players in the country didn't faze him at all. He demonstrated repeatedly that he can create shots for himself as well as for his team-mates, his ability to score consistently sets him apart. He's one of Nor Cals top 2020 Prospects.
Teiano Hardee, The 6'5 2020 prospect from Vanden H.S in Fairfield is a solid contributor to this Lillard 17u squad, he to performed quite well on the big stage. He has the skills to get to the basket on the drive and finish through contact as well as knock down open shots. The upset win against Team Billups, he went for 18 points. He's more than capable of defending his position and can rebound. His college ready body and skill set should attract more college coaches to Nor Cal.
Isa Silva 6'3 2021, Jesuit H.S Carmichael Ca. This prospect continues to hold his own on the big stage. He's a competitor, he knows what's going on and what to do. With the ball in his hands he makes the right decision, whether it's passing to open team-mates or deciding to get his own shot. He stepped up his defense the two games I saw.
Team Lillard 16u is fun to watch. They always go out an compete. When you play Lillard 16 you know it! Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa 6'3 2021 Brookside Christian H.S (Stockton Ca) is going to breakout. I've seen him play several times, I get the impression he can do just about anything he decides to do on the court. When he wants a bucket he'll go get it. He can play both guard positions, time will tell which one suits him best. Quality prospect out of the 2021 Nor Cal class.
Darrion William 6'5 2022 Capital Christian H.S (Sacramento Ca) This prospects game is rising at 6'5 he often has to defend taller and bigger prospects on the Gauntlet, he's got a good lower base and good foot work that helps. Offensively he showed different ways to finish in the post including the two dribble jump hook. His passing to cutters from the high post area was solid, and he showed me he's been working on his outside game, in a tough loss to YGC36, he scored 20 points and drilled four 3 point shots. At this stage of his development, he's proving to be an inside out threat.
Cory Yerger 5'10 2022 Grant H.S (Sacramento Ca). He's an athlete with sneaky hops, or maybe I didn't know he had those hops, since I hadn't really seen a lot of him. I got a good look at him on the Gauntlet. I was impressed with his ability to go up and slam it with authority. A prospect to keep an eye on as he works his way through high school and the grassroots sessions. Playing with Dream Vision gives him an opportunity showcase his skills . He brings a competitive vibe to the court, he's confident in his game, his skill set can only get better, his handles and ability to attack the rim were on display, he's a daring passer and likes to make the skip pass. He's one to watch!
