USA Basketball Mens Junior National Camp

October 11, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Day 1 at the Mens USA Junior National Camp in Colorado Springs: The place is full of energy: 2 courts, 4 to 5 coaches working per half-court. Lots of hands on instruction on fundamentals.

First 45 minutes were warm-ups, movement, stretching , footwork , balance on one foot, staying down, overall balance.

Half-court drills, help-side defense, positioning, where does the help come from. Emphasis on ball movement. Transition basketball, no dunking emphasis on making the layups. Boxing out in 4x4 drills. Corner baseline drives, pass to the corners, extra pass from corner to wing for the perimeter 3pt shot. 5 minute clock, count the makes. We're playing 3x3 now with the emphasis on one side of the half-court, help defense, ball movement, moving without the ball, back door cuts, proper screening, what to do after screening, roll, hard cuts to the basket or slide away. 3x3 half-court. 5 man full court transition basketball, spacing, responsibility,

running with a purpose.

Learning a 5 man half-court offense: Dribble hand off, drive and kick, look into post, ball reversal, moving without the ball. 5on 5 half-court running the play against a defense. Defense talking switching opening up.
